Alex has completed his final test before heading to Italy for the next round of the FIA International Endurance Series at the famous Imola circuit (30th June – 1st July).
These last few weeks have been a testing time for Alex in more ways than one. First, he had to sit his final A level exams at Southam College, and then jump straight into another test at the Castle Combe circuit in Wiltshire, to test the car he will race this weekend in the 12H of Imola in Italy.
Alex will be joining British Touring Car driver Josh Cook, Ollie Cook and Adam Hatfield in the Team Cooksport Renaultsport Clio which they took to second place in this year’s 24 Hours of Dubai in the next round of the Series at Imola, Italy.
Imola will be a new challenge for the team as it is the first time they have raced on the circuit which has the notoriety as being the track where Ayrton Senna lost his life in the Italian F1 Grand Prix in 1994.
“I am really excited to have the chance to race at Imola. It is such an iconic and historic circuit which will suit our car really well and we are aiming to go one step better than our second place in Dubai. Over the last few months I have been focusing on my A level exams, so with these now behind me, it is great to be able to focus back on racing,” commented Alex.
With only two rounds remaining in the championship, including Imola, Alex is currently in third place in the driver’s championship, as is his Cooksport team.
“A strong result in Imola will help both me and the team move up the championship, so we will be doing everything to ensure we score maximum points.
The race in Imola will also be a new experience for both the team and Alex as it is contested in two halves. “The first half is run over four hours on the Friday (30th June), then the car is parked up in a secure area and we cannot touch it, before the second eight hours kicks off on Saturday morning (1st July),” reflected Alex.
