Before Alex can start racing in the 120 mph Ginetta Junior race car, he had to pass his ARDS driving test. Just like learning to drive a road car, Alex had to complete a practical and written test to assess his driving skills and racing knowledge.
Unlike most young drivers sitting their first driving test, the car Alex had to take his test in was a 165 mph Porsche Cayman sports car and the location was the UK’s fastest race circuit, Thruxton in Hampshire.
With a qualified instructor strapped into the passenger seat assessing his every move, Alex lived every schoolboy’s dream and put the 165 mph Porsche through its paces.
“I have always been interested in cars and getting the chance to drive a Porsche on a circuit even before I am old enough to drive on the road was amazing” said Alex.
After passing the practical driving test, the next step was to sit a written exam to test his racing circuit and safety knowledge. Passing both parts of the test with flying colours resulted in Alex receiving his Junior Racing Licence.
With his Junior Racing licence passed, a trip to the Ginetta Factory in Garforth Leeds was the next appointment in the diary.
